Tuesday, April 17

Update: Collin got his FIRST bath tonight! Unfortunately because of the broviac catheter and his #2 cast they couldn't stick him in the spa bath...he got a sponge bath instead. (We asked if he "LOVED IT"; apparently not so much! lol) Although mom said he was very relaxed afterwards. Life is good!

The gift of YOUR prayers and good wishes have kept this family (Collin and his parents as well as the large extended family) safe and protected like a soft, security blanket made up of every kind thought, caring gesture, heartfelt prayer or encouraging word you offer. We are grateful for these gifts and so would like to share with you some photos of some "cherished security blankets" that keep our Baby Collin snug and warm.

The first two were made for Collin's mommy when she was a newborn, twenty-something years ago!

The first one shown was made by our treasured friend, Tammy P, who has known Grandpa N since he was a freshman in high school.

The second was made for Collin's mommy by her paternal grandma, Great Granny N.

Great Granny N. made the third blanket for her first great grandchild, Collin.

The last blanket shown was made for Baby Collin by his dad's Auntie Pat.

Made by different hands, at different points in time, with different materials and decorations; each of these was made with love and intended to provide comfort to their recipient. Thank you all for your beautiful gifts, we cherish them and you!

**Collin now weighs 6 lbs 13.8 oz. Recent blood tests came back that showed a small amount of damage to Collin's liver so the doctors are going to cycle his TPN in such a way that he'll be off it for 4 hours each day. In addition, they are giving him some medicines that will help protect his liver from further damage. This is something we have been expecting, yet it is still a little alarming. Thankfully the doctors are being proactive as far as giving his liver a break. In answer to several email questions, Collin and his parents will probably be going to Omaha in about a month, give or take a week. We'll write more on that later!**

Beautiful blankets! I, too, have a whole memory box full of those special treasures. I hope they keep him nice and toasty! I am so thankful that he continues to gain weight!! Way to go big boy!! I am sorry to hear about his liver but glad you were prepared for it. I will pray that there is no further damage!

Love the blankets and wish I were talented in that way. (Do any of the makers of Collin's blankets sell what they make? If so, can you please put up their information? They are all so lovely.)

Sorry to hear about his liver being damaged but I remember you writing about that. Prayers, prayers and more prayers going out to your extended and nuclear family!

I agree, all of the blankets are beautiful! (I wish I could sew or knit but am so incredibly UNtalented in those areas! ha ha)

I think it is so special for Collin's mom that HER mom saved those precious blankets from her infancy, to share with her now. I know that Collin's mommy will do the same for Collin!

Gazing at the pictures again I just realized that the blanket made by Tammy P (almost 22 years ago) has a bear on it that looks just like Collin's special prayer teddy. (It is pictured on the post "Monday, April 5".)

Those teardrop eyes...boy, they sure tug at the ol' heartstrings!

Those blankets are so beautiful. My babies had beautiful blankets too, but they weren't handmade. That makes all the difference in the world. A little bit more love with every stitch, as my friend says.

The liver is one of the rare organs that can "regrow" itself. I'm so glad they are proactive. Love and prayers to all of you.

It was so nice to see all the cute blankets. Granny N was especially happy to see them. Of course she had forgotten about the one she made Erin (her 1st grandchild) 20 some years ago. They don't call me old for nothing/or great grandma. Collin is really gaining weight. That's teriffic! Erin and Matt, since you will probably be in Omaha, you are invited to our 45 anniversary, Mass and dinner following. Only family will be there. Can hardly wait to see Collin and you both. Love, hugs and kisses

Granny N

Beautiful trio of blankets! So special!

No wonder he didn't like the bath..he knew the "spa" experience was right there and he couldn't quite snag it yet. I don't blame him for being disappointed in the sponge bath...I mean really! ;)

Collin looks great and the weight gain is such good news everytime we hear it.
