Monday, April 9

Update: We spent an hour with Collin as he slept this afternoon. The transfusion was a success, his blood count is now normal. Apparently every newborn gets anemic, their bodies aren't able to produce new red blood cells until they are about 6-8 weeks. It is normal for a pre-term baby like Collin (who has lots of blood drawn) to become even more anemic and the red blood cell transfusion gives their blood a little "boost" until they are able to manufacture the new red blood cells. Every little thing from rashes to blisters to diaper rash are reason for concern and worry for all of us. Bigger issues (like blood transfusions) that sound so serious really throw our family into a tailspin.

On a positive note, the feeds were increased to 2 mL an hour yesterday and may increase again today. So far he's tolerating them just fine!

Last evening it was determined that Collin's red blood cell count was low, so he was given a blood transfusion during the night. As soon as we know the cause of the low count or any other updates, we will let you know. As always, we ask for your prayers.

Also, today one of Collin's special angels, Tiffany Naylor, deploys for Afghanistan. She is with the 355th Maintenance Squadron from Davis Monthan AFB and will be gone for a few months. Please keep Tiffany and the Naylor family in your prayers. She is bringing her laptop computer with her and hopes to still read here and comment occasionally. God bless you, Tiffany, and Godspeed.

Thanks, Tam. As we were reminded during the homily yesterday, God is with us every moment. We need to put this in His hands and trust in His plan.

Thank you, everyone, for your prayers. We (all of Collin's family) can't thank you enough for holding us up.

OH Lora... such good news!
As I told you earlier, I was hoping and have been praying all day, that the blood transfusions were for nothing extremely serious.

I realize everything is serious when it comes to Baby Collin... but I'm sure every one of us were praying today that the B.T.s were just to give his health a boost in the right direction.

Hooray!

My heart is just smiling big-time right now, for the good news I just read!!!

What a champ you are, Baby Collin!
God Bless you and your dear family!

Woo to the hoo! So glad to hear Collin was just getting a little hemo boost. Hope he's feeling more energetic now :-). And the feeds are going well too! Wow, the good news keeps on coming.

I am so happy that so many people (myself included!) are finding this blog such a great source of information, news, and comfort, and even joy (especially when looking at baby Collin's adorable face). It opens portal for streaming in love and good wishes for Collin and his brave mom and dad, from people all over the world -- new friends, old friends, close family, distant family, and friends of family and friends. (That just about covers it all!)

Stay strong, and take care of each other.

Greetings from Shannon, Ireland!!! Our plane is broken down here and has been for the last 7 hours but I finally managed to get online. I was so touched to sign on and see the message to me. Thank you to everyone for all of your kind words.

I have so been wanting to check in on baby Collin! I'm so glad that the transfusion was a success and that his feeds are up. I pray that he continues to thrive! He amazes me daily!!

It's so nice to hear some good news. I know you've all been through many ups and downs, and that has to be really hard for everyone. Here's praying there are only ups from this point forward!
