Breaking news! The doctors have decided to halt Collin's feeds for two hours today in order to FEED HIM THE BREASTMILK WITH A BOTTLE!! WOOO HOOO! This is wonderful because up until now the physicians have been concerned with oral feeds (being able to control how much he gets and how quickly, etc.) If this goes well, hopefully they can begin to give him food orally in addition to enteral (directly into the tube in his stomach.)

Good news! Collin's breastmilk was increased to 7 mL an hour yesterday! With every increase (no matter how small), the percentage of breastmilk to TPN changes in Collin's favor. We are so pleased that Collin's Mommy is able to provide the healing, nurturing and life sustaining nutrients to keep him growing!

Also, Collin weighed in (not counting the cast!) at 7 lbs 1.9 oz! At this rate, we are pretty sure he's the biggest baby in the NICU right now.

His mom and dad are still working dilligently to get him accepted at UNMC and dad's pcs to Omaha. Our family in Omaha is thrilled and excited to get the opportunity to meet precious Baby Collin and his dad. They haven't lived in the same city with Collin's mom since she was a newborn herself! Lots of adventures in Omaha await the trio and their extended family. Great Grandparents N are celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary and Collin's uncle M will be graduating at the end of June...we pray that Collin and his folks are in Nebraska to celebrate these milestones with all of us.

Baby Collin has numerous cousins who can't wait to meet him! I see lots of camping, tree climbing and trips to Omaha's fabulous Henry Doorly Zoo in Collin's future!

To anonymous, I don't always put text on the pictures. (Sometimes it's time constraints, other times I just can't come up with anything!) If you run your mouse over the picture, you should see it if I have put text into the code. If you don't, that means there wasn't any text! Thanks for your question. You can always email me at : collinshope@mail.com as well.

That is fantastic news! Getting to hold and feed a baby is the most wonderful feeling. Erin and Matt, my heart just bursts for you with good wishes. It is fitting that his weight now resembles a good-size full-term baby, since it is just one day past his due date!!! All that love must be tremendously healing :-).

God Bless You!!! We love you and miss you very much. (What I write each evening may sound redundant, but my love continues to grow.)

Love you and Pleasant Dreams!

Love you,

Sweet Baby Collin ~ Such good news for you and your Mommy and the rest of your family. I'm sure you'll make some funny faces when you get your first meal... but will then taste so good to you! And your Mommy will surely be so happy and so proud and so emotional!

I am, just thinking about it! I can't wait to hear how much you love the bottle (and hopefully the breast, eventually!)

My prayers and good wishes continue for all of you.

BTW ~ When does the anticipated "move" take place? How exciting for all the family in Omaha!

Apparently he went NUTS with the bottle, lol! He really loved it. They *may* increase his intake again today, which would increase the amount he gets via the bottle.

Hooray for Collin!

***Collin, I hope someday you and I or one of your other loving grandparents can sit down and look through this blog and celebrate the little miracle that is you. I hope you always know how much you are loved (by all of us, from the moment we found out your mom was pregnant!) and will always be treasured and adored.

I love you, Collin, with all my heart and when we read this part together, I am going to cover your face in kisses, because that's what I do! Love, Grandma N.

Of course he went NUTS... I mean withholding a bottle from a little guy like Collin is like withholding CHEESECAKE from Grandma N or her "lifetime" friend!!! Maybe he snuck seconds...or thirds! LOL! :P

OMG what terrific news that he loves the bottle (no mystery there)! Let us know how he does with his nutrition going through his stomach. That's just a HUGE step, isn't it?

Aww, I am so glad that he loved it and did well! He knows what he's got to do! :) I'm sure everyone will enjoy looking back on this later! I printed mine and put it in his baby book. This is so large that you might have to send it to Kinko's or something and have it wirebound! :)

Tam, I am SHOCKED that you would let a secret like this out of the bag!

Of course he went NUTS... I mean withholding a bottle from a little guy like Collin is like withholding CHEESECAKE from Grandma N or her "lifetime" friend!!! Maybe he snuck seconds...or thirds! LOL! :P

I think I STILL owe Grandpa N a slice of Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake! lol :)

We were able to witness Baby Collin taking the bottle earlier this evening...his mom was correct in describing it as him going nuts! lol His little eyebrows were furrowed in concentration and his little mouth went to work like a parched man getting his first water in days! lol

It is very cute and makes it even more clear to the family that the physicians and surgeons don't know everything. Every day we are shown miracles that medicine can't predict. God love Collin!

LOL Grandma N! What secret? (innocent sounding voice) Is it a secret that we like cheescake? I don't think so. I was just imagining how much Collin must love his bottle and thought that our cheesecake was a good example. ;)

Lora this message is for you, please feel free to call me any time. I hope you and your family are all doing well.

I loved reading the update today! Baby Collin is growing and doing all things he should be doing! He's a champ!

I love the photo of him lying on the blue cuddly soft blanket (with balls). It's from 8 of Lora's friends...
and is one of the gifts we gave her at the Cyber (on-line) Mini-Grandma Baby Shower for her and Collin's Aunties S and A.

It was planned when we ALL were sitting on pins and needles, toes and fingers crossed, waiting for news on Baby Collin's condition and prognosis.

By the time "The Mini-Baby Shower" arrived at Lora's, we had been given good news and Baby Collin was outta the woods... and SMILING that precious smile of his!

As always, Thank-You for the news today. I love reading every detail. Looking at every adorable photo. Everyday. Over and over and over!!!

Now that Collin has a different mic-key (sp?) button has he tried to turn over yet? We never see him with his hands. Does he get to lay on his tummy or always on his back?Granny N (Omaha) wants to know. Can you tell I'm anxious to see and hold him, or what?
