Breaking News: Collin and his mom arrived in Omaha safely. Collin has been "admitted" and now they are just unpacking and getting used to the room. Collin has a small private hospital room with the World's Largest Crib (according to his mom), a single bed and a bathroom, so his mom will be staying at the hospital with him. Apparently the bi-plane they arrived in gave them quite the turbulent ride, but Collin slept the entire time. His mom said that she was really sad saying "goodbye" to his nurses and leaving Tucson, but as soon as they arrived at UNMC, she knew it was where Collin is supposed to be. She really needs a nap because she got little or no sleep last night, and a doctor was arriving so we cut our conversation short. When we talk next I will let her know of all of your sweet messages of support and love. Suddenly I feel like I can breathe again!

Saying “goodbye” is never easy, but it’s harder when you are sending away a piece of your heart. Our precious grandson, Collin Matthew, left for Omaha, Nebraska a few short hours ago and he took huge hunks of our hearts in his tiny hands.

I know it’s not easy for his parents to be separated for the first time in their young marriage; they would fight it if it weren’t for the potential to save their baby’s life. They have faced and overcome more in the first eight weeks of his life than most parents (thank God) will ever have to deal with in their entire tenure as parents. However, lovingly and skillfully, Collin’s mom and dad have met each challenge as if they were professionals. Each blood transfusion, every procedure, the tubes and the bags and the i.v.s, handled as easily as if they were no more than binkeys, rattles or diaper wipes.

So, now our precious grandbaby is en route to the “promised land”, where they perform procedures on newborns like “intestinal rehabilitation” and “intestinal or liver transplants”. Now OUR baby, my husband’s first child, is heading out, alone with HER firstborn. Please join us in our prayers and support for our little family; Collin and his parents, Erin and Matt.

During this time, please give them a chance to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please don’t call their cell phones unless it is an emergency; they may not be able to answer pages or texts for several hours. Please be assured that when Collin’s mom or dad is able, they will contact all of their family and friends to update us on their situation. Your love and support (and prayers) are so important to us all, and so very appreciated!

Just stopping in to say that we haven't heard any news though we're sure they have landed safe and sound. We do know that for at least a part of the trip, Collin was going to be able to ride in the carseat his Nana V bought for him. I know his mommy took pictures of his first carseat ride! We'll post when we know anything. Lora

Oh! I forgot to mention in my update that Collin rode the entire trip in his new big boy car seat! There was a respiratory therapist, a nurse, Erin, Collin and the pilot. I was joking that it was a bi-plane, but it was pretty darn small.

Great to hear Collin and Erin made it safe and sound! Looking forward to hearing the updates!

Erin, Matt, and Collin, I hurt for you, I feel a great pain inside.
For nearly two months, I have pushed my emotions aside.
I can’t hardly stand it, the feeling of helplessness.
It feels like all I can do is comfort you and say “God Bless”.

Bless you with the prayers that is, the ones I’ve been saying all night and day.
I wish there was something I could do or something I could say.
I’m not really an emotional guy, but I’ll just come out and say it.
There is nothing like stating the obvious, but Collin will never quit.

I’ve never felt so strongly for such a little kid I’ve never met.
Collin is such an amazing boy, so strong we need not to fret.
Not to mention the strength of Collins parents, do I dare call them a machine?
Erin and Matt your constant acts of courage and selflessness are not going unseen!

I Love you!
~Ryan~

Great Granny N and Great Gramps N were able to spend quite a bit of time with Collin and his mom last night. They report that Collin is just adorable and Granny loved holding him!

A couple from DMAFB whose child had gone through the same issues as Collin and was transferred to UNMC two years ago have been in contact with Erin. Yesterday the wife, Porshia, came to the hospital to meet Erin and Collin in person. She was able to give Erin some "pointers" about their stay and some good advice. We're so thrilled that Erin and Collin are surrounded by family and friends who each have their own special gift to share with Erin to make this journey easier.

Everyone, have a glorious day!

What a big day yesterday was with Collin's first excursion outside of the hospital he was born in! I'm glad he and Erin made it safely and are getting settled into their "posh" new surroundings. I hope that Matt can join them soon.

I wish that with changes (even good ones) there weren't so many good-byes because they are so sad. Even though there is such joy to know that Collin is in the best place for him.

Erin I hope you find comraderie and support with the other parents who've gone through what you are. It was really special for them to get in touch with you. I imagine you must be feeling "alone" in the world with this, but hopefully you know how much everyone is behind you. Even those of us who don't even know you!

Special note for Ryan: It took a real man to say what you did. I'm sure you speak for many people who wish there was more they could do. You put your feelings into words in such an honest and beautiful way. Your parents should be proud (I know they are!).

When Collin is old enough to read, he'll look at this website and know how special he is and how much you all loved him. The committment to posting something almost every day has been noticed and we hold you in awe.

Collin, you are loved! You sure were cute when you were a little squirt but I'll bet you're a big handsome boy when you're five.

Mike and Linda

G. Grandparents R (Grandma N's mom and dad) and Great Aunties Shari and Coco have visited with Collin and everyone says the same thing, "absolutely adorable!" They also say that Collin's mom looks darling and so tiny.

She has the hospital room decorated cute, just like she did in the NICU, only now she's living there, too. I am sure it is in perfect order and very organized. Hopefully she will take the opportunity to step out of the hospital for a few hours now and again so she can get a little break, too. We love you guys!

How fantastic that the hospital is letting Mommy Erin stay with her Baby Collin!

I can't wait to hear more about what all he's going through... what the Doc's and Nurses say... and, of course, to see more photos.

Thoughts and prayers continue everyday for all of you!
